December’s marks the end of 2018 and the first instalment of monthly playlists. A monthly playlist is something that I’ve wanted to for a while now; to show you guys what I’m listening to and give you a slightly more personal view.
So, the first playlist of the month has fifty plus songs and is way over two hours, full of recent tunes and music I’ve been listening to over the last thirty days.
You can check out the playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/user/issy.tate/playlist/4N1wj3OAzhMfA3KNYt15KX?si=xqbT7FN1RZCr-ZR7NEqnyQ and read my summary of it below!
DMA’s start their headline UK tour just next week. The three piece Australian band have been praised in recent years following the release of two highly successful albums. They have also been announced as support for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ huge Malahide Castle gig in Dublin, next June (see ticket info below) and will be playing alongside the likes of Blossoms and Doves there. Meanwhile, the band have also been announced as support for Courteeners’ highly anticipated Heaton Park concert next year, which has already sold out. December’s playlist includes some of their most well know tunes, such as ‘Delete’ and ‘Step Up The Morphine’ as well as other gems, such as ‘Do I Need You Now?”.
Tickets for Noel Gallagher’s headline show plus support from Doves, Blossoms and DMA’s at Malahide Castle in Dublin next year go on sale this Thursday (6th December) at 9AM. For more information on the gig, visit https://www.ticketmaster.ie/venueartist/197670/1637030
Billie Eilish has made it into this month’s collection of songs. She was recently announced as one of the first few acts for Reading and Leeds festival next summer. The 16 year old’s return to the UK is looking to be a massive one, and a tour in the next few months has been scheduled. The beautiful yet heart wrenching ‘idontwantobeyouanymore’ is in there, as well as ‘Ocean Eyes’ and ‘Hostage’.
It’s been a massive year for Tyneside born, 22 year old Sam Fender. Within the past 12 months, him and his band have gone from writing and recording music in the shed of a garden to being nominated for a Brit Award, touring Europe and releasing a six track debut EP. Whilst it isn’t arguable that Fender still has a long way to go until he reaches the top, he has laid the foundations of a long and incredibly successful career and the journey to triumph looks to be one under their belt. Towards the end of November, Fender and his band released an EP. It is a music masterpiece, filled with jangly guitar lines (courtesy of his lovely guitarist, Dean!) and punchy lyrics. The songs are eloquently written, with lyrics such as ‘Leave fast or stay forever’ in “Leave Fast” then punchy lyrics in ‘Poundshop Kardashians’. You can catch the whole of the EP in the playlist and I can guarantee that once you’ve put it on, it’s something that you’ll listen to on repeat for days.
Courteeners went on tour recently, with support from Gerry Cinnamon. Usually, being support is a tough job. Everybody is there to see the main act of the night and their job is already done before they even go on - they have won over the crowd. For support, it’s normally not this easy. They are fighting to get out there in the music industry, trying to pick up as many fans as possible on the way. Sadly, it’s not unusual for support to be overlooked during the night. However, for Gerry Cinnamon this was not the case. Armed with an acoustic guitar every night, he went on to a roaring crowd and did his bit, met with wild scenes. Throughout the tour, people have commented on his ability to get crowds going with his tunes, such as ‘Belter’, which you can find in the playlist.
Boardmasters announced their first wave of acts this week, with Florence and the Machine being the headliner. Their feel good songs such as ‘Shake It Out’, ’Dog Days Are Over’ and ‘You’ve Got The Love’ and perfect Summer singalong tunes and we cannot wait to have her back on the Cornish coast.
‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’ By The 1975 is quite possibly one of the most anticipated records of the year. It is the third studio album from The 1975 and is filled with jangly guitar tunes, with the obvious 1975 stamp placed on them. It swerves from fast paced songs such as ‘Love It If We Made It’ where you can see yourself on shoulders at a gig screaming out the words to it, to mellow songs that you’d expect to find a teen girl crying in the bathroom to. For example, ’Be My Mistake’ and ‘Mine’. This band are at the top of their game right now and set the bar higher and higher every single day with their immensely expressive music.
Other songs in the playlist include ‘Ten Minute Chase’ by Brixtons, ‘Bliss’ by SPINN, Stay Away From Me’ by A Festival, A Parade, ‘Call Me Up’ by French Beaches and ‘Someone You Loved’.
